I can confirm that the cats indeed develop magical powers when they age. At least Edis is doing that...
In Japanese folklore it is believed that some domestic cats develop magical powers as they age. They grow two tails and can shapeshift, sometimes taking on the form of their owner and living in their place. Known as nekomata they are a reminder to WATCH YOUR CAT CLOSELY.
