Upon deeper looking, I saw what seemed to be glassware or plastic ware behind the figures. The boy is also holding a glass. I think that the artist may be referring to Tupperware and how childrens’ imaginations can make games and entertainment out of objects found in the cabinets.

I’m not sure what the title of this piece, “Tubberwear palace” means, but it reminds me of youth and sibling relationships. The placement of the yarn and paint distinguishes the figures from the architecture.

“Playing girly” feels like a playful piece at first, but has feminist undertones. I think it seems to comment on how girls are programmed from a young age to like specific products deemed “feminine” which can make their appearance “more beautiful” or emulate the “perfect” body type.

“Picking scabs” by Lee makes comments about how the female body is portrayed and picked apart by the media. Quotes such as “flabby tummy” are inscribed across the piece to add to this meaning. Newspaper articles and magazine pictures are pasted to create a realistic feel.

Lorson’s “Not Enough Parmesan” captures the warmth, excitement, and joy of childhood. The colors of the paint and yarn and playful shape of the background wooden surface and the yarn material choice contribute to this feeling.

“The Tile Project” by Sinnett takes “the meaning is in the eye of the beholder” literally. The audience is meant to interact with the art both intellectually and physically.

I like how the Chinese flag is depicted on the top of this pan. I also really like how the food is life sized and looks realistic. The title “American Born Chinese” speaks to Lee’s cultural identity conflicts.

I think this piece comments on labor conditions in SHEIN. I like how the keyboard is transformed into a provocative statement that speaks on this issue.

I love the construction of this piece. It is made of cigarette boxes and is made life size. The title “toxic” contradicts the word “Glamour” painted across the box.

I love how Syd Lee’s work makes everyday objects like cameras and books life size and interactive.

Dremengala’s “English Dreamscape” has intricate line work which draws the viewer in. It appears as though multiple buildings are placed in front of one another to make a complex masterpiece.

These levels work together to form a harmonious exhibit which provokes thoughts of royalty, fairytale books, and medieval times. I wonder what “Lous Evitisnes” means; it is inscribed across the central sculpture.

“Intellectual fission” by Theo Hansen is a provocative piece. The piece argues that technology is stripping away our humanity. This argument is relevant to today’s technology focused world.

“Crying fabric” by Elgarat gives off electric vibes since the white contrasts the deep and dark blue so much. The drips down the work depict the idea of crying. The deep dark blue pigment also has connotations of sadness.

“Unexplained passion” by Elgarat has an interesting 3-dimensional form which is ambiguous to the viewer. The blue color choice gives feelings of depth and possibly sadness. Looking at the picture, a figure might be seen, starting at the shoulders.

This lack of labeling differs from most museum works. The museum also only features Still's work. This allows the audience to hone in on the progression of his work as an individual artist throughout his lifetime as the museum's works are chronologically organized.

Also, Still's decision not to name his paintings matches the starkness of the architecture. So, beside the paintings, the number of each painting is given. Since there aren't titles, the museum doesn't include descriptions. So, meaning is entirely up to the viewer.

After visiting the Clyfford Still museum, I was able to see how the environment of the museum impacts the viewership of Still's work. The overall modern building compliments the abstract nature of Still's paintings. The building is made of poured concrete and has a perforated roof.

I also noticed the DAM has a children's section of the gift store which is a smart idea for families coming to visit the museum who might be inspired to create art after experiencing exhibits.

Generally, I think gift shops add to the museum's overall profit. I also think that the products are mostly either art inspired or pieces of art themselves. I looked through the gift shop and found jewelry and bags with museum paintings on them.

I noticed that the Biophilia exhibit had a gift shop at the end. I think that it serves as an extra source of profit for the museum but also to individual artists who were featured in the exhibit. I remember going to see an exhibit on Louis Vuitton in NYC which also had a gift shop.

“Nervous system” is a fitting title. The branching lines that compose the chandelier and the shadows are interconnected like circuitry in the brain.
