Someone should let CPD know this because they basically said “we can’t do shit if the feds are on the clock” at their budget hearing.

Do ICE officers have ‘federal immunity’?
Stephen Miller said ICE agents have federal immunity. Agents have broad protections when they’re conducting official duties. But they’re not immune from prosecution if they break state or federal law.

ICE and CBP Agents Are Scanning Peoples’ Faces on the Street To Verify Citizenship
Videos on social media show officers from ICE and CBP using facial recognition technology on people in the field. One expert described the practice as “pure dystopian creep.”

My internet had been out the entire day with xfinity's site reporting an outage. I call, get outage message plus "an agent will not be able to help you solve this issue faster." It hangs up. I call again get it to let me chat with someone via text. The agent made my internet start working again.

Immigration law is like this too - some insanely racists cases that aren’t themselves directly cited are nonetheless where some of the crazy shit still being used today came from.
Mungia doesn't bring up that case and others just to say 'the Supreme Court has done bad things', although ofc it has

Why this matters: the biggest immediate threat to our communities right now remains the alphabet boys, who have *already* told us their plan to unleash Border Patrol. And while JB can conceivably put up a fight against the TX Guard coming, no local elected can stop the feds.

Again, even <if> the Wizards in Robes do not again desecrate the Constitution on this, every single one of these "national emergency" and "national security" loopholes, written into law during the Cold War, by both parties, need to go. They are simply incompatible with our current politics.
This. Section 740 of the Home Rule Act. IEEPA. Section 232. Every single one of these things needs to be rewritten or repealed. They are giant, aircraft carrier-sized loopholes through which a far right authoritarian party can empower a Mad King & destroy the Republic. They have to all go.
Once again, the imperial presidency, created by both parties during the Cold War, by passing laws allowing the POTUS to act like a king simply by using the magic words “national security” or “national emergency” w/o evidence, was a grave mistake, & if we make it through this, it must be dismantled.

Really a great look that @ilattygeneral.bsky.social responded to my FOIA a day late and wrote the incorrect date I submitted it in the letter so it look like they responded in time. Also completely misread my request and suggested I not ask for things that I had, in fact, not asked for. Great look.

Ah yes we know this works because it worked in a repressive authoritarian regime, a fascist regime, and *checks notes* the fictional book 1984. All notoriously reliable sources.
Putting the military on the street will lower crime. It does in North Korea, did in Nazi Germany, and in the book 1984.
The question isn’t will it lower crime. The question is do we want to be a nation governed like this. Until 6 minutes ago the GOP believed in LOCAL control.
