When my executive function fails, it may mean I can’t see well enough to drive to the store to pick up the groceries I need, so they need to be delivered…and yes, it takes executive function to overcome binocular vision dysfunction and not see vertical doubles.

Another option: the pattern writer may have used a tighter or looser gauge from the specified yarn gauge to get a desired effect or drape for the pattern. For example, you generally want a much tighter gauge for the basket meant to hold your yarn balls than the cozy wrap you wear while stitching 😉

Pattern gauge may not equal yarn gauge, and there are several reasons for that. Yarn gauge generally uses stockinette stitch for knit and single crochets for crochet. A pattern often uses a mixture of single stitches, and the gauge may be listed for the stitch pattern(s) used in the overall pattern

Patterns generally have a gauge specified in the notes before the pattern starts, or will state gauge is not important. They got that gauge from using the yarn they list under “materials” and the hook/needle size they used (depending whether it’s knit or crochet) for the pattern

If you use the recommended hook size, and do not get the specified gauge, it means your tension is different from the person who made the sample. You may either adjust hook size to get recommended gauge, or write YOUR gauge with the recommended hook size on the label.

This can get complicated fast, but I’ll try to keep it simple. Yarns recommend a hook and needle size for the “optimal” stitch definition of the yarn in question, which determines the gauge of the yarn (the information they give you on the label).

There’s ALWAYS more to learn! I’ve been learning new techniques in crochet for 25 years. Crafty people tend to be creative, so new stuff always seems to appear. TL yarncrafts taught me how to do the foundation single crochet so I don’t have to use a hook size larger to do my foundation chain anymore

I LOVE Toni! 💚 She’s so gentle and upbeat in her videos, it makes me feel like I have the patience for Tunisian crochet, which I generally don’t…but after watching one of her Tunisian videos, I wound up making a wedding blanket for a cousin entirely in Tunisian aside from the edging.

It took me 10 years after learning to crochet to figure out knitting. 😱 I learned crochet from a book in 1998, but needed YouTube to learn knitting. 😉

Generally, no. Crochet is more square, where knitting is slightly wider than it is tall so images tend to distort when converted. However, you may be able to find a crochet hat pattern and appliqué an axolotl to it if you don’t have the wherewithal to learn knitting and crochet together. 😉

Love it! I have a niece who will love it too! Let’s see if I can make it real before her birthday in April. 🤩

To counter the bad news I just posted, some beauty for your day…this is going in my Ravelry library. I have at least one niece who would enjoy having one of these. 💚
My Axolotl beanie for #NationalAxolotlDay. I actually didn't know it was axolotl day until today, but it's a good day to be publishing this pattern. 🧶🐸

I’d like to say I’m surprised that Palantir would prevaricate about the real use of their software, but I’m only disappointed that yet another tech firm powered by the influence of Mr. Thiel is following the traditional MO of too much money in the hands of greedy pigs.

this weekend i visited a beloved local cafe/record store and they had a bathroom labeled "Gay Bathroom". when we complimented the sign the barista said sometimes shitty people ask if there's a different bathroom they can use, so they have a second one in the other room labeled "Super Gay Bathroom"

My English teacher mom attended a Shakespeare course in England over a summer break and brought back a t-shirt I now wear for July 4th… “Happy Treason Day, ungrateful colonials” 😜

Heck, if I’m dead, and no one has found me yet, it’s only fair I continue to feed my cat as long as possible…and the dog too. 😉

They are definitely family…my Angel is old enough to vote, and has slowed down quite a bit, but she still slaps the dog around once in a while.
