@k2mg.net
We are a niche media group formed in chaotic environment back in 2017.
Speaking voluntary community management, desktop software development and self-controlled infrastructure.
Our moments outside of business tasks with @vivaldi.com's Vivaldi Mail involved.
One of us is doing an annual checkup of accounts to migrate to personal Vivaldi Mail account. Today they discovered they can move e-mail between accounts right within Vivaldi Mail's user interface in Vivaldi itself!

With help of @deathknight.bsky.social and @hw12.dev the problem of running Luxor, Luxor: Amun Rising and Luxor 2 from Steam is now gone after 13 years!
Hayden did the most difficult part—a new wrapper that is compatible with Windows 8 and onwards; Steam DRM remains intact!

We chose to continue servicing our forums board. The new lifecycle policy—effective December 7th, 2025—determines activity windows and our responsibility for upkeeping them.
No rocket science there!
We were directly asked if it is still reasonable to maintain our own forums board, EI Forums, due to low guest-to-users conversion and severe search engine indexing issues. The question was followed by suggestion to archive it and freeze in "read only" state.
We will tell you the answer in a week.

Ouch.
Vivaldi 7.7 offers some interesting interactions in the @cloudflare.social's Turnstile `iframe` but there's no way to click there. Bug report time for @vivaldi.com, we guess?

Not long ago, we took a deep dive into some bugs in the 86Box v5.0 emulator and explored a few ways to fix them. But we saved the best for last: one click is all it takes to break everything! No worries, though — @86box.net has already fixed it :)

Box of bugs (exploded): Perils of cross-platform development
In September, we broke down the 86Box v5.0 release, timed for the 30th anniversary of Windows 95 retail launch, and promised to show you something else. What is it that we promised? And why did we...

It has been one month since #SteelHunters permanent shutdown. While most people consider it was a live service, we think it wasn't. Service can be considered "live" only after it passes the EAP phase and not any second earlier.
We are not advocating Wargaming for decisions done but sharing thoughts.

Quoting @vivaldi.com here: big tech? BIG NO!
I'm breaking the silence to draw attention to the inappropriate situation that YouTube has allowed to happen. Allowing AI to make drastic decisions like terminating a channel is a huge slap in the face to their users and speaks volumes about how they treat us.

On this Saturday, October 25th, we will be shutting down our #BlacklightRetribution server that was part of the #BLRevive project for over a year. We ran into severe technical issues.
We would like to thank them for inviting us to the community of the game unusual to us, it was certainly a blast!

86Box 5.0 attracts users' attention with enhanced hardware support and a new dynamic processor recompiler. And PVS-Studio was attracted too, but with errors that were neatly packed into this tiny box.

On August 24, 2025, 86Box 5.0 was released. The low-level emulator for IBM PCs and compatibles has received a new dynamic processor instruction recompiler, broader hardware support, and significant...

Friendly reminder for those who hadn't upgraded yet: #YouTrack 2025.2 is available *only* as Docker images, ZIPs are gone. There is a detour—download the layer with YouTrack distribution only and do the upgrade like usual!
Keep in mind that such upgrades are not supported and your warranty is void!
September 22, 2025 at 9:12 AM
We still have our sealed #windows95 "For distribution with a new PC only" in our stash. Not voiding the seal as we cannot find that new PC that bundled this kit! 😅

'The Day Before' was a victim of development mismanagement, which lead to its doomsday in first place.
This game definitely set its name in stone.

(ex)Terminating bugs is such a pleasure, both for developers and users when they receive updates.
Give PVS-Studio a try if you are a software engineer!

Online DRM applied to physical media, which was most notable on releases past 2009, in a form of attachment to some digital distribution platform, nullifies the point of owning a physical copy. On top of that in mid-2010s some AAA-developer put a DVD box with a... DVD-shaped carton.

It's been 8 years since we stepped onto the path to eternity or eternal oblivion. The path we build and everyone around us building. This #anniversary is still quiet, like on regular weekday evening or weekend. We thank everyone who's with us and who joined recently. And remember, K2MG is a process!

You're welcome! It's so important to protect and support a #BetterInternet! #AlwaysHappyToHelp!
Moment of Gratitude: CloudFlare

CloudFlare saved the Internet Archive servers from a DDOS yesterday.

Max rate of this DDOS attack was 525 Gbps (44.93 Mpps) of a "TCP flood"

@archive.org does not have enough bandwidth to fend off that kind of attack = wouldbe bad saturday.

Thank you #CloudFlare

A shoutout to @youtrack.cloud—it takes significantly less time to deploy YouTrack Server even in a ZIP distribution.
Thank you, JetBrains, we are glad of sunsetting Redmine in our work once and for all!

Today #LestaGames was recognized as an 'extremist organization' in #Russia. There is a catch: it does not affect neither their clients, nor players.
We are monitoring the situation to learn how it will affect Wargaming Group Limited as several news media mention Victor Kislyi as Lesta co-founder.
On May 27th there will be a trial for #LestaGames on their shady business done with intellectual property of #WorldOfTanks (locally rebranded as Mir Tankov). While we silently monitor the situation in both communities, we try evaluate how would this impact players who also play #Wargaming games.

When developers experiment on users using A/B tests, we experiment on ourselves using recently launched platforms. With that said we launch our #Bluesky page to represent ourselves outside communities where we are already known.
