Tomorrow, DHS will publish a new proposed "public charge" rule. Trump 1.0 sought to implement a "wealth test" barring immigrants if they were "too poor," accessed public benefits, or were deemed likely to be dependent on the government for support.

According to Jackie Vimo: “It’s really a terrible double bind that immigrants are in... On one hand, they don’t want to drive unlicensed and uninsured. On the other... they don’t want to have to give their information to a government that might use that to deport them.”

Experts say undocumented immigrants are in a bind. They can get a driver’s license to avoid criminal charges for driving without one, but that comes with what now feels like a risk under the Trump adm...

This is not only bad policy, as it will result in the loss of millions of taxpayer dollars, but it is also illegal—IRC Section 6103 prohibits the sharing of tax data without a judicial order. 1/

RIP Education Department. Nearly one-third of all college students receive Pell Grants, and about 28% receive college loans. This is basically the Trump Administration making it clear that they don't want low-income students to be able to access higher education. 1/ www.nytimes.com/2025/03/19/u...

We took out these student loans w/the expectation, the PROMISE from the government, that our loans would be forgiven after ten years of public service. I would never have taken out these loans were it not for this expectation. I'm literally hyperventilating right now. www.forbes.com/sites/adammi...

This is devastating. I have been helping immigrants get Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers (ITINs) for decades. 26 U.S. Code § 6103 was supposed to protect the confidentiality of this data. This is now just a list of people's personal data for DHS to use for fishing expeditions. 1/

Excuse me while I go have a nervous breakdown. The Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) is one of the only reasons I was able to get a PhD. If Trump gets rid of PSLF, I might have to literally leave the country. The govt promised my loans would be forgiven if I completed public service.

According to the Constitution, judges CAN limit executive power. That's the whole point of checks + balances. So, to be clear, Vance is saying he doesn't believe we should follow the rule of law and the Constitution. We don't live under a military dictatorship...yet.
