were you aware that the thing that sounds like a siren in “I Like to Move It” is actually a sample of Sylvester from “You Make Me Feel”?? youtu.be/vuo8kD5zF5I?...

Long shot. Does anyone here know if AIMC this week supports single day, same day registration? Looks like no, from the site. But I’m interested in dropping by on Friday.

Reading David Huron’s Sweet Anticipation, on his decades of work on music and expectation, and his 1999 Ernest Bloch lectures (e.g. on empiricism in music research) significantly shaped the way I thought about music & science.

Dave’s post here definitely resonates:
I never worked with David Huron, but he had a tremendous impact on my life in the world of #musicscience. Wrote this for others in the music cognition community who want to share in his memory.

Am reading a big music information retrieval paper purportedly studying trends in musical complexity over time. But then you get in there and the data set is comprised entirely of MIDI files. So this is not a study of music, this is a study of the aspects of music that can be notated.

“To carry out this work, we have also proposed a dataset of failed-style recorders for this task” 👏
Music2Fail transfers music to a deliberately off-pitch recorder style using a new dataset (FR109); the study explores expressive style transfer beyond typical content-preserving transformations.
