If someone you know buys into claims about "genetic optimization" of embryos using polygenic scores of cognition, just send them our 2024 paper on Beethoven & musicality. We wrote it to help communicate limits of individual-level genetic predictions & complexity of links between DNA & behaviour. 🧪👇
Notes from Beethoven’s genome
Wesseldijk et al. compare the genomic information collected from Ludwig van Beethoven with population-based datasets used to quantify musical achievement.

I think one of the the hardest things I've had to get used to with running freelance data consultancy the past year is to not just continually work throughout the day. I just can't context switch quickly and any attempt to do that always results in burnout.

I keep seeing posts saying we need a new word for people who use Chat-GPT for everything: why not Chatlatan?

I never worked with David Huron, but he had a tremendous impact on my life in the world of #musicscience. Wrote this for others in the music cognition community who want to share in his memory.

Put this in a textbook
The DOGE firings have nothing to do with “efficiency” or “cutting waste.” They’re a direct push to weaken federal agencies perceived as liberal. This was evident from the start, and now the data confirms it: targeted agencies overwhelmingly those seen as more left-leaning. 🧵⬇️

I can tell it's the end of the year because my body is collapsing, I am getting the end of year cold, and I am finally sleeping for extended periods of time.

Setting up all the infrastructure to run your own business only makes it more apparent that business owners who complain about raising the minimum wage really just should not be in business. I would love to hire people to do work I don't want to do, but you know what, I can't afford that so I won't.

Almost finding blue sky to be too much at the moment given the huge influx. Happy to see everyone here, but damn, could easily start losing a lot of time here if I'm not careful.

Great to see such an uptick in people finally joining bluesky. Wish I had more to say at the moment in the #musicscience space or anything else, especially with so many people now forming a critical mass.

Hello, Bluesky!

I'm hoping to make the transition from X. It's a bit daunting to think of building a new community here, but it's time.

Still looking for someone to help me with this dumb custom feed I set up a year or so ago. I patch worked it together, am not a web dev, and would be happy to pay someone to fix this issue at this point because it's such a headache. Any devs out there used to working with custom feeds, please dm me.

Just participated in my first ranked vote, early election since coming back to the USA. Crazy that it's not this easy to vote and pick candidates that align with your values in the other 49 states.

What a week. Thought I'd be low key working on a few lingering projects but have spent the past two days recovering from Tuesday night food poisoning. So much for my first 4th of July in the USA in maybe 6 years.
