this is age-old discourse, i can't believe i'm seeing someone say this sincerely in 2025. this is a fake problem located entirely within a specific type of fandom. there is plenty of non-gay art about male friendship and being gay continues to be much more stigmatized than "men being friends"

Even SNW has the ability to do good gimmick episodes! The LD crossover episode is one of the few instant classics of the modern Trek era, and it's because there was a clear story to be told: How would two 24th century officers deal with going back & seeing the past as it was?
They keep trying to pander to the wrong audience lmao. The problem is not the gimmick episode, is that the story is in service to the gimmick instead of the other way around. the gimmick is not at fault of the creative team not being able to tell good sci-fi stories!
