Saudi Arabia reaffirmed its support for an independent Palestinian state and said establishing diplomatic ties with Israel would depend on the creation of such a state, hours after President Trump proposed permanently moving all Palestinians out of Gaza and making it a U.S. territory.

Trump's team is attempting the bureaucratic equivalent of 9/11, but instead of flying planes into multiple US command centers, the terrorists are simply seizing the operational systems of the world's largest economy.

Unlike the 9/11 team, these terrorists plan on surviving to enjoy the wreckage.
There appear to be at least three separately operating heel factions breaking things within the government in wholly different ways right now. There's the Miller-headed immigration one, the DOGE/Elon one, and a Project 2025 OMB one. This dynamic hasn't showed up in mainstream reporting at all.

No one's blaming Democrats for causing this crisis, but yes, many of them are failing to meet this moment.

One Democratic senator could bring the chamber to a halt. House Dems can go to fed agencies being gutted by Musk with cameras in tow. Governors can push back. State AGs can bring lawsuits.

Totally arms length arrangement here
The NTSB says it will no longer email news outlets or reporters with notifications of upcoming press conferences, including those on plane crashes in Washington and Philadelphia.

Instead, all notifications will be made on X.

We're filing a FOIA to find out more about the change in policy.

The fact that Deepseek R1 was released three days /before/ Stargate means these guys stood in front of Trump and said they needed half a trillion dollars while they knew R1 was open source and trained for $5M.

Beautiful.

I’d be more sympathetic to Chief Justice Roberts’ lament about the (real) threats to the independence of the federal judiciary if I knew that at least once in the past few years he looked in the fucking mirror and said, “Yeah, I should have handled that differently.” www.nytimes.com/2024/12/31/u...

I’ve been saying this for a while: the party doesn’t have a messaging problem as much as they have a listening problem.

I support Ben Wikler for DNC Chair. I’m not sure about Vice Chair yet, but David Hogg is on point with his remarks about messaging & political consultants.

This should be read as an admission from Sen. Hagerty that his staff is completely incompetent and/or illiterate.

“We were unable to read the bill until Apartheid Clyde started tweeting random lies about it! We’re total idiots.”
Sen. Bill Hagerty: "Thank God Elon Musk bought Twitter, because that's the only way we would even know what's in this bill ... Elon Musk's transparency helped make that happen."

This is an important piece by @gregsargent.bsky.social. The Trump admin will attack prominent voices that challenge it while news outlets, now owned by billionaires with no journalistic experience (or integrity), will shrink from their obligation to aggressively report and comment on this.
Ominous: GOPers are now saying Trump is picking Kash Patel to "clean out" the FBI and restore its "integrity." This will be their cover to go along w/Trump's scheme to unleash FBI on enemies. Media is already credulously echoing this claim. Awful.

New piece from me:

How GOP Senators Are Secretly Getting Ready to Surrender to Trump
Trump wants to turn the FBI into something so draconian that the political press many not grasp it until it’s too late. And Republican senators are already giving themselves cover to go along with all...

Musk’s DOGE commission may be a sham. But efficient government isn’t.
Efficient government programs should be high quality and, whenever possible, universal.
