Turns out it’s a pretty useful exercise to compare a manga’s original one shot with the first chapter of the series that spawned from it. In some cases you see clear improvements, in some others you see downgrades. In both cases theres something to learn about what makes a story work

I very much want to do a Manben style thing where I’d ask creators to film themselves working on something from start to finish and we discuss it together and get it on YouTube or something. But I’ve no idea if other creators would be into that. 👀

I actually discovered cool things from this list!
I talked with creators and industry folks like @lianakangas.com, @juniba.bsky.social, @patrickhorvath.bsky.social, @badmachinery.com, and @geauxta.bsky.social about what stood out from 2025 in comics, and it was a lovely mix of cool comics, community, new readers, and more.
It was a wild year in comics, so to kick off my end of the year coverage, I talked with creators and industry folks like @cliffchiang.bsky.social, @jazzlynstone.bsky.social, @iamdavidbrothers.com, and more about the year and what stood out from the world of comics.
