Strong interest in human rights
It is quite remarkable the Republican party has ceded one of their most important functions- the power of the purse- to the feckless president by voting for the recession package. Why have a Congress when the only thing they have done since January 20 is to grovel to trump? I am beyond disgusted.

It’s remarkable Republicans think nothing of spending billions on boondoggles like bombing the Houthis and Iran, and hosting ostensible parades for the military, but when it comes to funding food and healthcare for the most vulnerable, they talk about being fiscally conservative.

In my state of Michigan, House Republicans are already working on a ballot to limit voter rights. The poorly named federal SAVE Act is dormant, for now, but Michigan is not the only state where Republicans are attempting to restrict voting. Be prepared: register now!

Raised in a mid-sized, homogeneous, rural town, I was sheltered. It was education (I have a PhD in microbiology) that broadened my conservative roots. Most academics are “liberal” because we are taught to be open-minded, to ask questions, and to seek truth.

This is completely terrifying, a huge violation of the first amendment, and part of the coopting of a distorted version of anti-semitism to justify persecution of people speaking out against Israel's genocide. And the broader pursuit of a police state.
