We spent 4 nights here and wouldn't have wanted any less.

The canopy was in chorus at all hours.

From kookaburras at dawn and dusk, lorrikeets and currawongs during the day, and flying foxes, gliders and owls all through the night.

Kookaburras in particular were very friendly about camp. 👀

I think we’ll see a campaign to vote tactically to ‘stop Reform’ become even louder towards a GE.

Hopefully that will gain traction before locals too…

Except…
68% not voting Ref might just pull a proverbial rabbit out of a hat and vote tactically for whichever party would beat them, esp. in seats Ref would otherwise be most likely to win.
Turnout could rise on ‘stop ref’ ticket

conceivable voters support a v diff. party if nec. in certain seats?

What’s the word to describe when yimby tech bros advocate AI for economic growth, but then the AI asset over-valuation is said to be on course to create an even bigger crash than the previous financial crash, with impacts on economic growth which aren’t what they advocated for?

This absurd situation has arisen because successive Governments would rather tax livelihoods than tax SUVs, flights, car dependency, cheap commodity imports and land degradation associated with tropical deforestation.

And continue to spend billions subsidising tech which won’t stand on its own.

Adds costs on bills in a cost of living crisis
Detracts from the options which will create energy security for the UK
High risk that old growth forests in the US and Canada have been logged

“We are going to increase tax on your labour while your job gets taken away by robots. But it’s not our fault. It’s your fault for voting in thatcherite government for 46 years and then voting to leave the EU and then being persistently lazy and unproductive.”

GB wind being decidedly *not* intermittent this week, leading to ever higher GW output and lower grid carbon intensity.

Changing wind speeds are balanced on the grid with interconnection and other forms of generation.

Many people are finding hedgehogs: sick, dead or dying.

Numbers are already at an all time low.
The risks to them are greater every day.
It’s possible that we are observing the functional extinction of hedgehogs in the UK.

Is anyone talking about this or treating this as the emergency it is?

Divergence from EU regulation takes the UK further from a position of readiness to rejoin.

The EU is a rules-based organisation.

The UK spent >5-7yrs, and recruited ~100k+ ppl. to administer leaving and develop new rules. The UK isn’t going to be able to rejoin and pick the rules it agrees with.

This point has never really been acknowledged by Farage, Reform or the Conservatives in the UK.

Talk about negotiating or rejoining is futile without understanding where the UK is now re: EU regs.

While in the EU, the UK played its part in developing legislation it now rejects.

This is totally unnecessary - and political 🧨?

Just remove the subsidies to obsolete technologies, failing programmes and increase taxes on carbon-intensive activities.

Seems now that it’s climate policy or bust.

Even cutting or firing civil servants will be implemented by civil servants.
Cronies wouldn’t know what the existing civil servants know. Recipe for certain failure.

beautiful paradox(es) inherent in this story:

Decarb to 95% FF free grid is in train due to policy decisions 2012-14.
Policy change on net zero won’t lower bills because net zero policy in itself is not leading to rising bills.
UK economy decarb due to deindustrialisation is in train.

Metro staff pushing ppl onto trains. Authorities deny this and say they’re “Space optimising execs”

Madrileños said on socials:

“what happens due to the poor administration of PP and Vox.”

PP =Spanish equivalent of UK Cons
Vox = Sp equivalent of RefUK

Perhaps both slightly more RW but still

Much less public funding for renewable energy is needed if we simply remove direct and indirect subsidies to fossil fuels.

There’s a need to neutralise the policy arguments of Reform one by one.

Could do worse than starting with the misunderstandings on net zero.

It’s not net zero policy itself but the policy technology choices to get there.
