Watch as this visualization reveals the stars of the Orion constellation in three dimensions. The familiar pattern on the sky distorts into a whole new perspective.

The sequence begins with a view of Orion in our sky. Featured in this scene are some of the brightest stars, like Betelgeuse. 🔭 🧪

Total lunar eclipse tonight!

It's at a bad time for most of us in Eastern Canada (!), but I'll set my alarm around 3am to watch totality and the return to partial eclipse.

Info and time in our blog post (at Discover the Universe): www.discovertheuniverse.ca/post/two-ecl...
Two Eclipses in March 2025
March 2025 is bringing us not one but two eclipses visible from Canada! First up, a lunar eclipse on the night of March 13-14, followed by a partial solar eclipse on the morning of March 29.Remember w...

Have you read Star Maker, by Olaf Stapledon? I'd be curious to know your thoughts! I just finished it, after too many months. Not an easy read, but mind-blowing!

I love comets in the LASCO field of view!
Wow! LASCO is a camera on the SOHO space-based solar observatory. It has an occulting disk that blocks the Sun and lets us see fainter material around it. This time-lapse lasts several days, and holy wow that comet!
What a beauty! This is comet C/2024 G3 (ATLAS) passing through the field of view of the LASCO C3 coronagraph.

It wasn't for certain whether it would survive it's closest approach to the sun on January 13th, but it did and delivered us a spectacular show!

If you get a clear sky, look east to see Jupiter - the brightest point of light in that part of the sky. And if you have access to a pretty dark sky, you should also be able to spot the Pleiades, a beautiful star cluster!
