Looking for syllabus recs for a fall u/g class on Asian Americans & Pop Culture. I welcome all suggestions but am interested in: 1) scholarly essays on the study of pop culture; 2) popular lit/nonfiction texts (incl graphic narratives); 3) digital media. I will post the syllabus once I'm done. Ty!

Two questions, the 1st speculative, the 2nd fact-finding:
1) Given the success/accolades he achieved in his life, why isn't John Steinbeck more of a presence in 20c Amer lit studies?
2) Is he still taught in secondary school or even college? (I'm GenX & feel like everyone read Of Mice & Men.)

I started this on my other socials, but am bringing it here: B/w 7-1-24 & 6-30-25, my goal is to read 40 books that are not related to my research (race & Amer lit, Asian Am lit/culture, & trains). Each book I finish will be posted in its own comment below. I welcome suggestions & conversation!

The latest episode of @newbooksnetwork.bsky.social in Asian Am Studies is out. Christopher Patterson speaks about Landbridge [life in fragments] (2023), written by his late partner Y-Dang Troeng, and his own work, Nimrods: a fake-punk self-hurt anti-memoir.
