The third violin sonata by Brahms contains all the elements of a Romantic sonata: a calming, lyrical first movement; a beautiful second movement filled with love and consolation; a spirited third movement; and a majestic, glorious finale. This masterpiece was composed by Rachmaninov after his attempted suicide, and he dedicated it to his physician.
