My day job is buying books for 34 libraries. Use em or lose em, folks. FREE BOOKS, what's not to like? If Waterstones put a sign up saying Free Books All Weekend it'd be like a plague of fuckin locusts and folk would get trampled to death.

Jan, what was yesterday’s Alphaguess? I got a bit stuck then forgot to go back to it!

Since Veronica died in December, I no longer have a cat. I appreciate the freedom of NOT having a cat - can go away without massive cattery fees, no litter-tray incidents, I can trust my bedside water is just mine.. but... I miss having one. I'm not going to get another one, am I? No..

My little cat Veronica (age 18) died on Monday. I felt bad enough then, but this afternoon, lying on the sofa with the crossword, I so very much missed her sitting on me and butting her head under the newspaper so I'd stroke her, warming my lap with her cosy little body. RIP my beautiful Ronnie.

Does anyone else play Alphaguess? Yesterday I had a guess at the word of the day and got it right first go. It was bizarrely disappointing rather than a stonking triumph. I felt cheated out of a good bit of working it out. Mind you, I screwed up Connections so that was a balance, of sorts.
