Instead of choosing one word for the new year, I always choose a poem. This one is by Mary Oliver. I know there will be storms this year— challenges, tough decisions. But I always want to make sure I remember what’s important.

I am truly grateful for the public library. I love to read and would not be able to read nearly as many books as I do without the public library. I check them out to use with students as well. Audiobooks, digital books, physical books. They have it all.

#ditchsummit Holly‘s session really resonated with me. I teach kindergarten so I never really thought about incorporating lessons on AI. But it will become something imperative to their critical literacy skills. I was inspired.

Texas teachers are quitting at a rate that’s 25 percent above the national average. In Tennessee, the vacancy rate for all public schools is 5.5 percent, compared to a national average of 4 percent.

It is very important to me that my students get experience navigating different kinds of technology beyond the reading and math programs we use daily. We wrote our first digital stories! They illustrated what they were thankful for and we put it together in a little video that they narrated.
