The Strangers: Chapter 3 has the most psychological dimension of the three films, but whatever is good about it isn't worth its bad plotting and having to sit through the other two movies.

Iron Lung is a box office sensation that demonstrates influencers' ability to marshall an audience, but - despite flashes of interesting imagery - the film could have benefited from a more experienced creative team.

Send Help is a revenge fantasy, a love story, and a survival tale, and Sam Raimi makes the mix of tones work. It is fun, gory spectacle that works best for those on Raimi's wavelength.

A Private Life is good because of Jodie Foster, but its plot is uneven. The theme about the difficulty of knowing other people and allowing oneself to be known works well even if the mystery doesn't.

The Testament of Ann Lee features the #Oscars biggest snub: Amanda Seyfried should have a Best Actress nom.

Primate is a gory and shocking horror film that luxuriates in violence and mayhem while its thin characters and plot plod along – and yet it still managed to produce more than a few effectively cringy moments.

Avatar: Fire and Ash has the same great special effects that you've seen in the previous two movies, but because it is functionally a movie - with a story and character arcs and everything - it is by default the best Avatar

Hamnet features the best performance of the year from Jessie Buckley who delivers soul-shattering scenes of grief.

There may be a small audience for a film recontextualizing Hamlet in Shakespeare's biography, but I'm in it.
