Zootopia 2 is fun, engaging, and energetic entertainment. It has just enough of a message to check off the box that it says … something.

Rental Family is a quietly profound film similar to (but not nearly as good as) Ikiru about the magic of human connection and belief that we can help each other through all this.

Brendan Fraser is effortlessly affable

Wicked: For Good features everything that was great about the first film but the cash-grab decision to separate the show's acts ruins it.

Wicked could have been a five-star film. Wicked: For Good is half of that

Now You See Me: Now You Don't is the barest minimum of entertainment. Cashing in on the charisma of its stars, it gives them so little to do that the whole thing proceeds like a mildly bemusing card trick.

The Running Man wildly shifts from “dark and gritty” to Edgar Wright action-comedy before the film becomes totally unglued in the last act with every idea thrown haphazardly at the camera.

Die My Love features a fully committed performance from Jennifer Lawrence who goes from feral physicality to letting deep inner pain play on her face in silence.

Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere is not a film about Springsteen as much as it's a film about depression’s ceaselessness using Bruce as its vehicle, which is more important than another biopic.

Good Fortune picks at class inequality and the general hopelessness of our current economy. And yet it doesn’t have the courage of its convictions to offer anything beyond the most cosmetic solutions.

Black Phone 2 take a long time to establish its own identity and develop its themes and characters, but once it does, its strong cast, thematic heft, and decent scare sequences make it a worthwhile horror film.

Kiss of the Spider Woman has some good choreography and musical numbers. Though I'm not in love with all the changes from the '85 film, this remains a classic story about the transcendence of love.

Tron: Ares features fantastic visual effects and some compelling action sequences, but the characters have flat arcs, and Jared Leto is just bad, delivering a wooden, phoned-in performance.

Good Boy's premise - telling a haunted house tale from a dog's perspective - is good, but the execution doesn't take advantage of the premise: too many cheap scares and nothing uniquely canine about the dog's behavior.

The Smashing Machine includes the best performance of Dwayne Johnson's career - which isn't saying much

The film begins as a compelling character study but eventually falls into becoming a middling sports drama

Him is made with the kind of "we'll never get to make a movie again so let's do every idea in this one" energy that I love, but there are so many thematic threads that don't weave together, making it a bit too messy to recommend
