Reading all of the Viriconium stuff rn and loving it LOVING IT but it's also funny to me that big enjoyers talk abt it like it's extremely esoteric (storm of wings is definitely WEIRDER) but I'm finding it very readable and IN VIRICONIUM especially is very fantasy of manners adjacent which i adore

really deranged (to me) that Tor don't put any real design work into their best books (beyond a beautiful base cover design/art/illustration!) but no interesting end papers, no embossed title/author font, no under-jacket embossing, no jacket paper quality variety

another reason Dems can't build an antifascist coalition is because they're already part of the fascist coalition. This is an incredibly common pattern for the second party in a late capitalist two-party system, which always seem to simply become a racheting engine of fascism with two factions
The orgy of liberal pundits tripping over each other to praise Charlie Kirk—when he caused so much violence to the lives of Black and LGBTQ people (including me specifically)—is telling about why the Dems can’t build an antifascist coalition.

This morning I have a (rather long) review of Katabasis up at @nerdsofafeather.bsky.social. In many ways, it’s a book quite similar to Babel, but those differences (and degrees) really tell, and turn things that worked for me in one really much less successful in the other. You can read it here.

As Portuguese, this article rings very true. The discussion about the empire and colonial myths in our national identity and culture is long overdue, as is acknowledging the horrors that we inflicted throughout the world. This didn't end in 1974 when we finally toppled fascism; it still runs deep.

also really love this article by @francomenz.bsky.social, about an exhibit engaging with art, history, gender, botany, colonialism, and indenture in the Caribbean - really cool and interesting!
Reimagining Caribbean indenture in an artistically botanical afterlife
A refreshingly original art exhibit in Port of Spain, Trinidad, examines what it means to be living a post-indenture, feminist life.
