Energy & Commerce text is out. Will go through it in this thread.

tl;dr: this'd be the largest Medicaid cuts in history, kicking millions off their health insurance, leading to tens of thousands of additional deaths each year

LOTS of bad stuff in this (but the very worst policy did not make it in)

Seems I missed this paper from last week: Evidence for a near-term advantage for evaluating the Jones polynomial.

I first heard legend of this work last year, and I've been obsessed with coming up with the ideal quantum-powered knot-based game ever since!

I'm hiring for #svelte / #sveltekit devs! Reach out if you want to work on making sure health insurance companies pay their fair share for healthcare. Bonus if you're excited about working in a startup environment with lots of ownership over product decisions.

Back in 2019 Ozy invited me to speak on a panel for their company off-site in Menlo Park because I had filled out a questionnaire about my consumption of Ozy.

In preparation I spent some time looking more closely at their social media, and what I found was very interesting.

Super interesting paper!!

Although I expect market structure to have a similar aggregate cost effect across specialities I don't think the price effect will always be there.

The reason is pointed out in the paper: anesthesia billing is pretty unique.

What happens after anesthesia rollup acquisitions?

Within six months, prices increase 18%. Within two years, they increase 25 to 30%.

There are a whole family of macro problems that are ripe for the combination of reinforcement learning and empirical work. Reinforcement learning unlocks complex equilibrium behaviors with a lot of interesting but classically intractable setups. This research agenda is so exciting.

It should not be surprising that Canada is punished by Trump's international policy, his operationalization of Canada against China in his last administration led to the detention of two Canadian nationals including my former colleague at International Crisis Group.

The really interesting case is Canada where the permissive law gives rise to a lot of behavior which the NJ law cited in the article would disallow, in particular MAID for non terminal and psychiatric illnesses.
