I just want to make real tech for real people again. Physical media collector. They/them
They don't realize pennies are reusable?

It's not weird to see a penny minted in the 60s still around. That 4 cents easily led to 10s or 100s of dollars in commerce.

Slowly eliminating cash and letting Visa middle-man every transaction in the country is a travesty for everyone but the oligarchs.
It costs about 4 cents to create a single penny, and the Treasury Department says ending penny production will save American taxpayers approximately $56 million a year.

You look at the dice. Rolled a 3. This game of Monopoly has been going for 250 years. Trump is brandishing a knife while his buddies piss in the houseplants. Elon is refusing Monopoly money, rooting through people's purses. Chuck Schumer is re-reading the rules pamphlet "Ok, a three! It says here.."

Even with remote human control, these things are obvious going to topple over and seriously hurt children and pets.
The loading-the-dishwasher struggle is real. Even—or especially—for the $20,000 1X Neo humanoid home robot.

You can bet at some point someone referred to the east wing as Melania's Office and it was immediately doomed to be demolished for a bunga bunga ballroom.

I want to understand why every single YouTube video is now 23 minutes long, but I refuse to watch a 23 minute long YouTube video explaining why.

Platner and Hegseth are both about my age. Every single male college student in the 2000s saw American History X. We all know the tattoo on Ed Norton. None of us can see an all-black pec tattoo without thinking of that movie. We all know what it means.

Unsurprisingly this is why AI is going to fail and why tech in general is getting worse. It takes talent, craft, and skill to make software that solves real problems and that real people want to use.

But that's antithetical to Andreessen and the other finance bros steering the industry.
It’s tiresome at this point, but again, their entire pitch is “wouldn’t it be great if there were no such things as talent, craft, and skill,” and what that means is a bland, slop-filled world. www.businessinsider.com/marc-andrees...

As a millennial I know there's a movie called The Cider House Rules but I've never seen it. Can't be bothered.

Is it a sorority pledge comedy? French aristocratic period piece? Amish architecture doc? Adaptation of 12 Angry Men with kids in a treehouse?

I'll simply never know.

On Twitter you could instantly block any profile with a driver's seat sunglasses selfie. On bsky for some reason it's dog photos.

See a dog pfp? Block indiscriminately. Can't go wrong. Feed gets better every day.

I don't get all the nuances of this whole waffles thing, but this is the Zuckerberg cop out. He insisted he was just building a platform. Just building tools. Just increasing communication.

Your tone feels flippant, this stance is naive, and we're decades past typical tech handwashing being ok.
We’re system architects at core. We built a decentralized network so you could run your own moderation, but beyond that our upcoming healthy discourse project is taking some swings at the interaction model that drives these dynamics on Bluesky. Excited to start seeing it in action.

This is insane. People are focused on big tech here, but there's a LONG tail of companies nationwide with H1-B employees that don't make even close to $100k salaries.

Will those people be forced to leave, disrupting thousands and thousands of families and businesses?

Forces of evil in a bozo nightmare
Starbucks says surveillance clears an employee who’d been accused of writing “Loser” on a cup when someone ordered Charlie Kirk’s “favorite drink.”

The accusation was originally posted by a Republican party official. It forced the store to shut down for safety.

This stance makes complete sense once you realize that Priests, Cardinals, and even the Pope are also baby boomers who scroll Facebook all day. They just wear funny clothes to work.
Cardinal Timothy Dolan on Fox & Friends on Charlie Kirk: "This guy is a modern day St Paul. He was a missionary, he's an evangelist, he's a hero. He's one I think that knows what Jesus meant when he said 'the truth will set you free.'"

The Jimmy Kimmel suspension is clearly not about Kirk. Kirk may be a litmus test, but it's 100% about Trump's fragile ego.
Trump:

"When you have a network, and you have evening shows, and all they do is hit Trump... They're not allowed to do that."

It's impossible to buy a home in Seattle even on a tech salary. Combined with constant vicious layoffs to drive those salaries down, tech companies have narrowed their hiring pool to inexperienced fresh graduates and junior devs.

It's a big part of why tech keeps getting worse.

Literally directly calling for white nationalist violence.
Elon Musk spoke by video to Tommy Robinson's anti-immigrant rally in the UK today.

"You're in a fundamental situation here where, whether you choose violence or not, violence is coming to you," said Musk. "You either fight back or you die."

The everyday thought process of republican leaders, influencers, and media voices involves eugenics and mass extermination of humans they deem undesirable.

This should alarm everyone.

So extreme right-wing groups incited violence against a very right-wing guy known for inciting violence and the result is more right-wing influencers calling for violence and right-wing news organizations directing hate at trans people.

None of this is a 2-sided problem.
