Well that’s a first. My only mildly sarcastic answer to a question about how we know 3I/ATLAS is a comet made it onto Have I Got News For You.

Quick update video on the real science (plus some hopefully not ill-informed speculation) of 3I/ATLAS around it's closest approach to the Sun.

Rapid brightening! Changing colour? non-gravitational acceleration! It is Aliens yet?

No. But it's still cool.

These are galaxy colour magnitude diagrams from a different article surely? 🧪🔭
I think this paper about the relationship between screen time and ADHD (and related brain structure) is very interesting... but at the same time, I'm looking at the plots and grind my teeth.
These are really terrible correlations (and possibly data biases). 🧪

Our interstellar comet has reappeared from behind the Sun! (I note there’s no sign of it having fired any engines while hidden from us….)
Comet 3I Atlas is back in the field of view of the PUNCH WFI instruments. Here is co-added stack of all of the images from the clear filter (centered around 550nm) from October 27th.

I made a (relatively) short video looking at the 8 reasons Avi Loeb thinks 3I/ATLAS has a 40% chance of being aliens.

I’m not impressed.

Welcome to our Open Day 👋

Unfortunately, due to the clocks change, our ANPR cameras have fined all Open Day guests who have parked in our car parks between 8-9am. The fines cannot be cancelled, but 5% will go back into improving the student experience.

Best quote referring to the comet going behind the Sun “Was this hideout planned as an opportune time for technological action?”… No 🔭🧪
Loeb latest: “If 3I/ATLAS is a massive mothership, it will likely continue along its original gravitational path and ultimately exit the Solar system.”

Getting his excuses in early. Even if moves like a comet and leaves the solar system it’s still aliens.

Irritated by all the publicity hungry nonsense about 3I/ATLAS and aliens I made a video describing what we actually know about this unusual tourist from deep space and deep time that is racing through our solar system.

Spoiler: it's a comet, a cool one, but still a comet.

In this galaxy cluster merger the galaxies are located in the red shaded regions with the majority of the mass. The pink region in the middle is where the gas lies. This proves the existence of a missing dark matter 😉🧪🔭 #extragalactic #cosmology
Models have been showing this major rain event for many days now. Rainfall amounts >2" are likely over the higher terrain. It will be interesting to see the measured maximum rainfall amounts.

We used observations from the \emph{JWST} Emission Line Survey (JELS) to measure the half-light radii ($r_{e}$) of 23 H$α$-emitting star-forming (SF) galaxies at $z=6.1$ in the PRIMER/COSMOS field. Ga...
