Gen X woman channeling my inner Princess Leia. Recognized the GOP recalibrating into Imperialists while watching Star Wars. Hope and joy are resistance.
I hereby rename thy two headed megalomaniac President Donald Musk.

Indeed it’s down.
USAID.gov is down. Why is this concerning? Trump has no legal authority to eliminate a congressionally funded independent agency. The work of USAID is vital, and if this can happen to them, it can happen to any of us.

It’s far past time to demote #Pelosi and #Shumer. Time to elevate @aoc.bsky.social .

“Don’t feed the trolls” also extends to bad opinion pieces in papers of record.

They run them bc people react to them the most.

If we stop linking to bad columns and instead post thinkers we find valuable (& generate convo around it), incentives change.

It’s not easy and takes constant practice!

This laser brain believes he should round up immigrants in his sleigh while celebrating attacks on Ukraine. He definitely belongs on your naughty list.

Preordered.
So anyway, I had this idea that everyone, particularly young people, should learn what is taught in law school.

I also had the idea that the way it is taught to young people is boring.

It wasn't until law school that I realized how interesting this stuff is.

The result ⤵️

Yeah, I unfollowed Seth yesterday because, mental health. I just don’t need him poppin into my feed to remind me things are 1000% worse than I could possibly imagine. My anxiety does a great job of catastrophizing on its own, thanks.

Thank you, Heather Cox Richardson. A refresher on Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address:

‘“It is for us the living,” Lincoln said, “to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced.”

Here’s one small thing you can do, Resistors.
Thanks to your calls, Rep. Vasquez is now voting no on H.R. 9495. This nonprofit-killer bill would give Trump unchecked power to go after his political opponents. Call your representative and demand they vote no on H.R. 9495: indivisible.org/resource/tel...

Who else is breathing in this sacred pause right now?
The philosopher Viktor Frankl said, “Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.” Buddhists have a name for that space: the sacred pause.
The sacred pause between the election and what comes next
There are plenty of fires to fight right now in America, but there’s a fire inside you, too. Appreciate this sacred pause—this space between fires—and let your flame find its way.

Stop calling it a grift and use the real terminology, it’s corruption, embezzlement, money laundering, racketeering, take your pick.

Worth a read for all Bluesky users. Also worth reading the comments.
Oops! Warning ahead:
1/IMPORTANT thread about Bluesky funding and origins. Many folks know that it was seeded by Jack Dorsey around a libertarian vision of a magical network that wouldn’t need moderation because it would be decentralized and baked into a protocol (somehow).

Hey, Media Matters needs our support, so please give them a follow!
Ahoy! Help spread word that I'm here, please.

I'm president of Media Matters (@mmfa.bsky.social).

X is currently suing me and colleague personally as well as Media Matters. Been sorely missing the community Twitter once offered me. Hoping Bluesky can help fill that void. It's much needed.

Tip for folks just breaking the Twitter habit: the best thing you can do is replace the app’s spot on your phone. Muscle memory is a hell of a thing, work with it not against it.

I take no pleasure in informing a Libertarian friend that their child may lose their IAP if the DOE is dismantled. No pleasure saying what that alone would do to our economy.

This is so important. Keep a diary & keep it simple: Record important developments and your reactions to them. Records like these matter to our community. Don’t let them gaslight us.
We know this because we lived this with Trump for the last eight years. Keeping focus is difficult. We're going to need to get better at this.
