Thank goodness!
Good news: "The Social Security Administration has abandoned plans to block thousands of older Americans from qualifying for disability benefits after an uproar that reached senior officials in the Trump White House."

We will stay vigilant to make sure this terrible plan stays dead.

Social Security scraps plan to limit disability benefits after uproar
The policy would have fundamentally altered who qualifies for the two federal disability programs by eliminating or limiting a person’s age as a factor to consider.

Were straight men and boys always like this, but just knew better than to voice their opinions in the pre-internet days? And do the men who post these types of comments act like this in real life too? If so, what do they hope to achieve (because I bet whatever it is it’s not working)?

It’s exciting to see popular legislation like the Social Security Fairness Act, release of the Epstein files, and the measure to restore union rights to federal workers advance via discharge petition.

Maddening that this is the only way for the legislature to do things people actually want, though.

If ACA coverage becomes prohibitively expensive for millions of Americans, that’s also a de facto cut to Social Security Disability benefits because it’s really hard to prove you’re disabled if you have no medical records to submit because you can’t afford to go to the doctor. #SocialSecurity

Realizing that I miss federal agencies observing commemorative months more than I expected to—mostly because the emails and web pages weren’t just performative. The federal government really did used to care about hiring, supporting, and recognizing the contributions of a diverse workforce. #AltFam

I didn’t realize there was a nonprofit that facilitated getting excess venison to those in need. This would be a great org to donate to in addition to your local food bank rn. #SNAP #GOPShutdown

Thank you NOAA Commissioned Officer Corps
NOAA hurricane hunters flying aboard a P-3 Orion aircraft ("Kermit") are monitoring Hurricane Melissa as most aircraft steer clear. The storm poses a catastrophic threat to Jamaica and Haiti.

The crew are among the many federal workers working without pay during the US government shutdown.

I’ve read accounts of the Wounded Knee Massacre many times before (including previous ones by HCR), but this is the first time it felt like I could be reading a news article about a current event.

Great piece on the state of farming in #Ohio. Interesting how the organic farmer is the one most insulated from the vagaries of the current regime. www.statenews.org/government-p...
As Ohio farmers prep for harvest, many are concerned about profits and politics
It’s almost harvest time for Ohio’s farmers, and many are facing tough choices from weather and tariffs.

And yet, federal employees still have to complete annual whistleblower training that encourages them to report wrongdoing and assures them they will be protected if they do.

Yeah, Social Security really needs to stop attaching that privacy statement to everything they mail out. It’s a lie now
The Supreme Court decision allowing DOGE full, unfettered access to the public's most sensitive personal data is a loss for all of us.

No one in history -- no commissioner, no president, no one -- has ever had the access that these DOGE minions have.
Supreme Court grants DOGE access to confidential Social Security records
The order, for now, overturns actions that limited DOGE's access to sensitive private information. In a separate case, the court said DOGE did not have to share internal records with a watchdog group.

Another solution in search of a problem at Social Security. Apparently a chatbot that hasn’t been trained on Social Security material is supposed to fill the shoes of the thousands of employees who have been cut at the already historically understaffed agency. #Social #Security

168 people were murdered on April 19, 1995, including SSA employees serving the public. We will always remember.
