We are hearing that almost all of the Office of Elementary and Secondary Education (OESE) has been let go. This is devastating news for both the employees, who are being treated as nothing more than political pawns, and for K–12 education in this country—both deserve better.

The executive branch is refusing to distribute funding that was appropriated by Congress to be distributed in accordance with formulas laid out in statute. This violates, as they say in the legal world, a fuckton of laws.

All those right-wingers who claimed the First Amendment was under attack because they couldn’t say racist shit without consequence are strangely silent now that the First Amendment is actually under attack.
We have had nearly two decades of panic about Free Speech on Campus and not a single case, not even the ones they made up, were as bad as what's happening now
This is the text of the email just sent to hundreds of international students telling them that their visas have been revoked due to activism or social media posts.

Release Rumeysa. Release Mahmoud. Release Badar. Release every single wrongfully detained person.

This is fascism, pure and simple. We must stand up for them, we cannot sit idly by. If we remain silent, we are complicit.

Dept of State has sent hundreds of international students an email telling them their visas have been revoked and asking them to leave the country. The email did not just go to students who physically participated in campus activism but also those who shared or liked “anti-national” posts.

The attacks on the U.S. Department of Education have nothing to do with efficiency or with returning education authority to the states. For starters, states and school districts (NOT the federal government) already control what's taught in schools.
