NEW POST

Almost every school I know has a list of Teaching and Learning or curriculum "non-negotiables." But is that a good term to use in schools?

Please share if you can 🙏🙏

This is a great example of where AI as the default could make education worse.
As one example one excellent trainee told me they had struggled for a while to get Gen ai to create a worksheet for Spanish vocab. That would have been done in minutes in a collaborative group or even a chat with another teacher. You’d get a whole unit of work most likely from an experienced teacher

Adam writes a cracking blog. This one on school improvement priorities is well worth a read.
I am blogging again!!!

Like many others, I've moved over to Substack for a bit of a refresh. First entry is on school improvement - where to start, and what things matter.

I'm weirdly a bit nervous about it it's been so long 😭😭

School Improvement Starts Here: Behaviour, Participation, and Memory
All schools can improve, but it's often hard to know where to start. In most contexts, we can begin by asking three simple questions.

NEW EPISODE

We asked @profbeckyallen.bsky.social what are the three most important things for teachers and leaders to know about assessment.

Number 1? That it's all about learning.

An email I got last year following the webinar:

[our] trainee came at break today saying (direct quote): "I just delivered an Adam Boxer style lesson with my tricky Y7 class and what a difference!!! I can't believe how such simple changes made such a big difference to the behaviour"
🚨BEHAVIOUR WEBINAR IS BACK🚨

Over 100 people came last year, and left with a series of concrete + actionable strategies that make a difference in REAL classrooms

This year, it'll be even better as we have lesson footage!

Here are some (healthy) curriculum & assessment trends I'm seeing in MATs:

• More MAT-wide curricula (written or bought-in)
• MAT-wide assessments aligned with curric.
• More unseen assessments (to avoid teaching to test)
• More focus on HOW an assessment will be used to inform curriculum/teaching
