Opportunity is built right here in North Carolina. By creating more apprenticeships and engaging with employers across the state, we can connect more people to new careers that can support their families. I look forward to continuing to create opportunities in every corner of our state.

Yancey County’s Community Paramedic program helps bridge the gap between primary care and community needs before emergencies arise. The program’s work before, during, and after Hurricane Helene is a shining example of North Carolina’s leadership in rural health care innovation.
They’re medics, social workers, neighbors and 911. Meet the health care workers who do it all.
The Community Paramedic program in Yancey County, North Carolina, is part of a nationwide effort to reduce nonemergency calls and to close health care gaps.

Another winter has arrived after Helene, and hundreds of western NC homeowners whose homes were destroyed and who are seeking a buy-out are still in limbo waiting on FEMA for approval. DHS owes these families answers.
Hundreds of residents signed up for FEMA buyouts after Helene. Not one has been approved.
More than a year after applying for a federal buyout, many North Carolina homeowners have heard almost nothing definitive.

Stopped at Hursey’s BBQ in Mebane with the family. Previously inducted into the NC BBQ Hall of Fame, Hursey’s is lifting up this year’s inductees. NC BBQ is the best in the world.

No matter where you go in North Carolina, you can see his legacy – in a preschool, a life sciences company, or our system of higher education, or through the work of his daughter Rachel. It is a profound honor to build upon the foundation he set for this state. May his memory forever be a blessing.

Thanks to his vision and leadership, North Carolina emerged as a leader in public education and economic growth. He had a burning desire to make North Carolina better for everyone.

He spoke to us about the need to diversify North Carolina’s economy and to prepare for the jobs of tomorrow, and he told us that North Carolina’s success was going to be about holding fast to our values: integrity, discipline, responsibility, and patriotism.

I can think of no one who shaped North Carolina’s recent successes as much as Governor Jim Hunt. Governor for 16 years, he was a visionary who founded Smart Start, raised teacher pay, protected air quality, and created the NC Biotech Center. On a personal level, he was a mentor and dear friend.

North Carolina should be expanding access to health care, not restricting it. We can solve this on a bipartisan basis. The legislature needs to come back and fully fund Medicaid.
