Children don’t “get confused” by multiple languages. They get confused when adults (not just teachers!) treat the ways they use their languages as problems. Support multilingual kids by honouring all the ways they make meaning #Translanguaging #EducationForAll

Im (still) coPI of a $3mill US Dept of Education Grant 2022-2027). We serve underresourced schools in the US Midwest. Our research documents how to get great positive lasting + sustainable outcomes, and explains what to do to support teachers. We do the kind of work fascists dread #multilingualism

Language is not a system of communication. It's much more. It is how culture is articulated, shared, transmitted. How identities are forged, performed. How knowledge is disseminated, maintained, developed. Ultimately, language is how individuals, communities and societies take shape over time.

Today's university in crisis is Kingston, which is cutting all the departments and subjects below, a savage retrenchment that won't even make them half of the £20m savings they need. Every day will be like this until something is done.
