Ulmus crassifolia 146. This twisty little Cedar Elm is finally getting a mature canopy. I collected it in 2018 from a wild space that has since been bulldozed away (ugh, progress). It still has a top sacrifice branch, which will remain for another year or two to further heal wounds.

Ulmus crassifolia 1. This Cedar Elm had its braces taken off today. A year and a half ago I removed the original top and using a rebar brace, I pulled a branch up to form a better, more tapered apex. I collected this back in 2004, and it has doubled in trunk size. Love Cedar Elms!

Taxodium distichum 4. Nice bright orange foliage on this Bald Cypress right now. I just love the aromatic volatile oils, which are released as the color changes. I started this in 2012, and have grown out the branching slowly. #bonsai

Lagerstroemia indica 19. This Crepe Myrtle is cleaned up and ready to sleep for winter. I collected this in 2014 from a front yard of a person removing landscaping material, and was drawn to the gentle movement of the trunk line. #bonsai

Ginkgo biloba 1. Light rain today was enough to send some of the amber fishtail leaves of this Ginkgo falling, so it needed a quick photo before they all fell. I just love the absolute antiquity of the species and the wierdness of it being a broadleaf conifer.

Quercus buckleyi 1. This Texas Red Oak is having a great, colorful moment - time to take a photo! I just love the deep reds to rusts to orange tones these trees will get in the fall. Our nights have dropped low enough for color change, and it's wonderful

This shohin-sized Ficus, along with all of the other tropical cousins, is heading for the greenhouse, so it's a good time to stop and reflect to see how it's progressing. I started this as a simple branch cutting from a larger Bonsai in about 2011. The twigging gets more ramified and dense each year

Ficus benjamina, aka Weeping Fig, ready to go into its winter greenhouse home. I started this 19 years ago. Moving in, I de-wired and cut back long shoots and thinned the top layer some to prepare it for a shadier few months ahead.

Enjoying succulent bonsai with this Portulacaria afra, getting a nice mature look finally. Great species from South Africa originally.

The sky is Blue, a good time to share a bonsai, like this Ficus salicaria, which is getting ready for its winter quarters in the greenhouse.
