I just read the most excellent, again, opinion piece by Ezra Klein in the NYTimes, one of the perhaps three voices in their opinion section whose pieces are always 100% spot on. Stop calling them ICE and call them by their true name: American Gestapo. ICE is an acronym for Immigration and Customs Enforcement which usually takes place at he border. Why are they in our streets then? Hence, Gestapo.

My father-in-law and his wife were supposed to visit last September but health issues happened. Then they thought they’d put it off to this year but after what’s been happening he told my wife that they won’t be visiting any time soon and I don’t blame them one fucking bit

I love how in their article about Zohran Mamdani being sworn in the NYTimes says “about 40,000 people are expected at the block party of Broadway for Mamdani”. As a native NYer, and one who’s extremely excited for this mayor, I’d say the numbers, even with snow on the ground, will be closer to 100K
