bari is our ongoing reminder that failing upward is the new american dream
Bari Weiss’ two accomplishments so far are hosting an interview that she desperately wanted people to watch (but they didn’t) and trying to spike a news story that she desperately wanted nobody to watch (but they did)

Anyway AVATAR: FIRE AND ASH is a good ash movie
'Avatar: Fire and Ash' review: Not exactly a hot take - InBetweenDrafts
James Cameron's eye-popping war epic doubles down on dynasty. But will 'Avatar: Fire and Ash' find its audience already burnt out?

My short story "The Empathy Gig" is the 40th story/poem to be published on @ceteramagazine.bsky.social! This is a speculative romance about a world where dating apps have been replaced with "heart drones" that manipulate people's emotions while they're on dates. It's weird I guess!

not surprised a movie about deconstructing harmful black-and-white narratives that promote violence and knee-jerk hatred of the other is unpopular with evangelicals
I guess the songs are pretty solidly anti-shame. Can't have that!

Folks when i tell you this analogy rules I am not holding back. Also it is so cool to see ILLEGALS, one of the most political fantasy stories I’ve ever written, get brought to life in such a gorgeous, action-stacked collection.

Ok so I reviewed RENTAL FAMILY and really dug it despite some truly glaring flaws. As someone who couldn’t finish BEEF, I’m enamored with how HIKARI brings about these Ted Lasso type characters in settings that are actually believable and low-key depressing…
‘Rental Family’ review: Brendan Fraser gets emotionally reimbursed
The Oscar-winner stars in Hikari's 'Rental Family,' a tender Tokyo dramedy about quiet connections and finding purpose in unexpected places.

the most impressive thing to me about NOBODY WANTS THIS as a show is that despite a decent amount of time in between seasons (and only a handful of episodes in each one) I am invested enough in this low-stakes world to retain a TON of the details and character nuances

i wrote a gentrification horror story where a broke copywriter invents fake families for a redevelopment company and then watches them become real. definitely not based on a true story, for sure!

it's called LITTLE GOOD PEOPLE and hey look at that you can read it for free!
