It took 17 hours, a missed connection, me making a scene at the customer service desk, getting stranded in the Jackson airport because there were no rental cars, and a McDonald’s drive-through that gave us a bag of random items we didn’t order, but we made it to Mississippi for Christmas 2.0

It’s one of the best collections I’ve ever read. The world better watch out for this one.
So I'm reading @sabrinahicks.bsky.social forthcoming short story collection Coyote Girl and just read a piece that made me exhale, "oh my God," as in, omg, that's one of the most stunning and beautiful stories I've ever read.

Less impressed with the guy nursing his 7 AM airport beer than I am with the guy absolutely going to town on his 7 AM airport Pad Thai

You can tell that LotR was written by an academic because Gandalf disappears for like 20 years doing research to answer a single question.

Last night, the weather was nice so my wife and I kept the windows open while we wrapped presents. Closed them up when we went to bed. Woke up this morning to the cat asleep under the tree. We don’t own a cat.

"With vivid, biting images and telling details, Bidar gestures at the deeper currents guiding her characters' lives." Lovely article @pw.org Literary MagNet about terrific writer @patriciaqbidar.bsky.social & 5 lit mags she's in. Can't wait to receive my copy of her book Pardon Me For Moonwalking.

I’ve said this before and I’m gonna say it again: @mdbell79.bsky.social’s REFUSE TO BE DONE, specifically his second draft rewriting and weasel words, changed my life!

(And I say this because I just got done cutting a disgusting amount of justs, verys, looks, and sees from this new story)

I walked out of Fry's today between a fireworks and a Coors Light display while "Walking in a Winter Wonderland" played overhead, and it's 80 degrees in December in Phoenix.

@cbwell.bsky.social is a hell of a writer who you should stop and read right now. His collection, NOTHING GOOD HAPPENS IN A FLYOVER STATE, is one of my all-time favorites. Really excited for this story.
"On his way out Dad bent down & told me that I was man of the house now & I would be taking care of Mom. None of the other 12-year-olds on my block had a job to do like this. Maybe, I thought, this would prepare me for 6th grade." - Colin Brightwell mrbullbull.com/newbull/fict...

Kingdom of the Spiders (1977)
Novelization of the schlock classic where William Shatner battles a herd of stampeding tarantulas in the wilds of Northern Arizona. Shatner plays country vet Rack Hanson. You're damn right I'm gonna read all of Rack's lines in Shatner's voice. Rack 'em up!!!🎱
