Pulled up on the bike and this little Weka strutted out of the bush like he’d been waiting for us. Bold, curious, and completely unbothered — the ultimate South Island greeting.

4.5★ A warm, steady story about women finding their way back to themselves. Secrets, disappointments, small hopes and emotional honesty that feels grounded and real. A gentle reminder that the people you meet along the way can shift everything.

4.5★ A tense, twisty ride where the neighbour is far too interested in your life. I tore through this one, second‑guessing everyone right up to the final reveal.

Yellowface — 4★
Sharp, clever, and uncomfortably honest. I loved how it tackled racist assumptions and prejudice from so many angles, all wrapped in a well‑written, propulsive story. A bold, biting satire that stays with you.

A Month of Sundays — short review
Loved how each character unfolded across the book — gently, honestly, and in ways that made me care more with every chapter. A quiet, tender story about connection, second chances, and the power of being truly seen. 4.5 🌟

Loved the layers in this Glenorchy (NZ) moment — wings, people, colour, and those mountains watching over everything.

The Intruder 4.5★ A tense, fast‑paced thriller that hooked me early and never let up. The storm backdrop amps up the chaos, and the twists land hard. Loved the momentum and the creeping dread throughout. #52bookclub #2026readingchallenge #booksky

My sunset companion.
I was photographing the light when she arrived — silent, steady, and sure. Perched beside me on the rock, watching the sky fold into gold like it was her evening ritual too!

The Tenant — 4★ A twisty, fast‑moving thriller that kept me guessing right to the final reveal. I definitely didn’t see the ending coming, and part of enjoying it was letting go of the urge to question every detail. A great read.

4 🌟 The Confession was such a gripping read. Loved the characters, loved the tension, and the way each confession peeled back another layer. Very satisfying.

⭐️ 4.5/5: A suburban Melbourne street, a prickly older woman with secrets, and a neighbourhood full of heart. Loved the humour, the dual timelines, and the unexpected tenderness. The audio narration was brilliant too.

2 🌟 Just finished Before the Coffee Gets Cold. Loved the concept, but it didn’t land for me. I wanted more depth in the past‑visits and more real change in the characters. Just not my cup of coffee.

4 🌟 It took me a while to settle into the story, but once I did, I really connected with the characters. The writing is strong, and the mythological elements were the standout for me — I loved seeing the gods reimagined in such a vivid, engaging way.

Cussen Park settling into its evening hush.
Light folding itself across the water,
the day exhaling its last warm breath.
I stayed a while, letting the colours linger in me longer than the light itself.

I was just trying to enjoy a quiet coffee at Lake Nagambie when these two seagulls started battling for pole position like it was the Bird Grand Prix. I did not order this level of drama with my mocha!

Candle droppings from a Hanukkah Menorah, poured and shaped by the night. We shared the final evening with Jewish friends, in celebration and sorrow after the Bondi massacre. Wax as an abstract reminder of that moment.

Melbourne after dark.

Mad Mabel by Sally Hepworth features Elsie (Mabel) a sharp, stubborn, and full of secrets character who unfolds alongside a wonderfully odd patchwork of neighbours. Touching, funny, and unexpectedly tender.4.5 stars from me.
