His earthy hands, loam
from the allotment. Produce
never held for long.
Always given as gifts, seeds
of dreams grown into harvest.

My mother would fall asleep with the radio on
loud enough to drown out the depression
which explains my subsequent addiction
to nonsense rhymes, and to her other penchant,
the bottle of wine, both battles
I am winning
although the Shipping Forecast
still, inexplicably, exists.

I collect sticks with my son
in the field behind the house
while my wife makes supper
and remember gathering firewood with my mother
to heat the lonely home
my father made when he left her.
I will keep you warm all the winter.
I would blow on the embers
with the last breath in my lungs.

Made these #startrek iPhone lock and home screens to make my phone look like a tricorder. Yup. Thought I'd share them in case you want to send them to the Trekkies in your lives. Happy Sunday! 🖖

All my Bluesky #poetry #micropoetry and #haiku from October 2025 - admittedly not as great a harvest as one might expect, but it's been a bit of a tough month. Thanks to you all as ever for the poetry community here!

For a Harvest Feast with Friends
So we became brothers to the harvest,
through tears sowed and friends lost;
brothers to the harvest,
and to our Father and our Lord.
And we became brothers to our sons
reaping their songs of joy,
and so we became brothers to joy,
with this feast our reward.
So we became brothers to the harvest,
through tears sowed and friends lost;
brothers to the harvest,
and to our Father and our Lord.
And we became brothers to our sons
reaping their songs of joy,
and so we became brothers to joy,
with this feast our reward.

In the wee small hours
returns the bipolar ghost,
like fear of winter,
of walking again - once more -
recovery's long hard road.
