Jen Murray & I just signed off on the proofs for our new edited collection (out February 1) on Civil War memory. Who knows how much will change in the next 3 months? Still, I think we've done a pretty good of showing that memory battles are far from over.

National Council on Public History
For the last four years, NCPH has worked with the National Park Service (NPS) to foster the creation of an introduction to place-based disability history. The forthcoming “Disability in Place,” comprised of 26 essays by 31 authors, will be the first accessibly-written anthology of original, peer-reviewed essays to address historical intersections of disability and place. Join the authors, editor, and members of the project team to discuss the anthology they made, the process of making it, and why it matters for the current moment.

Most students are using AI to write, but not necessarily to cheat. They’re brainstorming, revising and thinking critically with tools like ChatGPT.

Indeed, there's a long history of tying alligators to violence against Black people in American culture.

Oh well....
And, yes, the end of the Civil War was indeed turbulent.
But you'll have to read the book to discover if the war ended in 1869.
