Absolute stunner of a concert from the legendary father of Ethio-jazz Mulatu Astatke and fabulous band at London’s HERE at Outernet tonight. Rhythm section (including the amazing John Edwards on double bass) just phenomenal. Contender for gig of the year.

Whatever else, I’m loving the New Order Blue Monday references in this morning’s @politico.eu’s ‘London Playbook’. (Oh, and there’s a Leonard Cohen one too.) Well done @andrew-mcdonald.bsky.social & @bethanymrd.bsky.social. Full newsletter here: www.politico.eu/newsletter/l...

On a dull, damp day I so enjoyed the David Hockney ‘Some Very, Very, Very New Paintings Not Yet Shown in Paris’ exhibition at the new Annely Juda Fine Art space in Hanover Square. Colourful and humorous as you would expect but make sure to go upstairs to ‘The Moon Room’. Free until 28 Feb 2026.

Recommend Paul Andrew Williams’ film ‘Dragonfly’, a social-realist portrayal of loneliness, friendship and fear of the unknown that will have you questioning all sorts of assumptions. Andrea Riseborough and Brenda Blethyn are outstanding. So is the dog.

Wow! What an orchestra. What a sound. What a conductor. From first bar of Janáček’s ‘Taras Bulba’ I knew we were in for something special from Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra under Sir Simon Rattle at @barbicancentre.bsky.social tonight. The Bruckner Symphony 7 was just out of this world.

Paul Thomas Anderson’s ‘One Battle After Another’ is a fantastically wild and thrilling film. Terrific performances from Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn and newcomer Chase Infiniti. Plus some car chase scenes that will have you reeling. Great film score (Jonny Greenwood) too.
