I’m really sorry to be missing #eseb2025, but for those sorting out their conference plan there are several lab talks and posters about what we are up to. Spoiler, they aren't all talking about guppies, or even fish! 1/n

Male Guppies With Orange Spots 2X More Sexually Active Than Dull Males, UBC Study Finds - Karmactive
Orange male guppies perform sexual displays twice as long and attempt mating 200% more than dull males. UBC scientists link bright coloration to brain development in genetic breakthrough study.

Hey #CSEE2025 interested in flowers, natural selection, urbanization or any combination of the three?
I’m presenting results of my thesis at 11am today in the urban ecology session (Rivière Coaticook)

Amazing work from Jérôme Burkiewicz! A fascinating look at how urbanization shapes pollinator communities and flower traits across multiple cities, and natural vs. controlled settings. This study reveals both plastic and genetic responses to urbanization in Southeastern Canada—go check it out!
🚨 My first first-authored paper is out on bioRxiv!
🌆🏵️ Urbanization changed the pollinator community and flower morphology of Impatiens capensis.
🐝 The size of bumblebees—the main pollinators—correlated with sepal size, driving selection for larger sepals in urban populations.

There is a #stickleback stock center @uconn that supplies egg or adult stickleback (fees help cover operating costs). Check us out at www.sticklestock.com
(The website also has lots of protocols to help new researchers get started)

Mothers dictating how to reproduce? How weird! In a hybrid fish, however, that is the reality!
Check how maternal ploidy governs gonadal development into producing either sexual or asexual oocytes, all that in our new paper linked below!
