Let a 28 year old break me a month or two ago and it's gotten me mountain biking alone to Sun Kil Moon on a Sunday night.

Reconnected with a friend I haven't seen for 3 years this past Saturday. June was rough for me, but this ended up being the best thing to happen to me in a while, and is the highlight of my year so far.

Jon King microwave smashing.

Gang of Four at The Opera House. Feel like the only person here not in their 40s.

Eiko Ishibashi at The Garrison.

Some films I liked this February. The top 3 are very good.

Didn't watch much new this January (instead mostly revisited Lynch films) but I saw and liked these.

Sum 41 is the most successful group of people to come out of the town I live in, and they're doing a show & meet and greet at my old highschool. Cool of them to do this.

I watched it back a couple times late last year and I'm pretty sure it made an ancient LB mutual I've had since 2018 log it 2.5 stars with a review that went something like "Jesus Christ early Herzog is so overrated among my mutuals".

Been a while since I've seen the Murnau but think the Herzog Nosferatu, which I've come to love of late (mostly as a vehicle for Adjani and Kinski), is comfortably my favourite of the lot. Adjani wandering through the town square, as all the townsfolk revel in hedonism, is such a great scene.

Have not seen this for 6 years.

Kind of hated the whole first stretch of this (the journey to the castle up to Hoult's escape is unbearably dull and manufactured) but I liked Dafoe and he made the final third, where Eggers does prestige Zulawski, watchable. Didn't see the vision for Allen or Skarsgard.
Had absolutely no intentions of seeing this but Cineplex brought back $5 tickets and I need to get out of the house.

Wanted to get into Rohmer last year and, after getting off to a good start, ended up rerouting to Garrel.

Of everything I've seen this year, excluding pre-established canonical films, this was the biggest highlight. There's a charm to the scenes where Li attempts to pry into Ma's past only to be wryly dismissed and told "it's all bullshit."

Expanding a bit on some of these and some extra (mostly ones that maybe ten people have seen within the past year).
The films I liked in 2024.

Backing up some files on my phone and pleasantly surprised by these pictures I distinctly remember taking the day after I watched Out 1 while listening to the Labuza-Rosenbaum pod on the film.

Got a short video by Jeff Tweedy. Hopefully next year, Morrissey will call me a slur.

Had no idea Vittorio De Sica did a film with Montgomery Clift and Jennifer Jones.

4K Restoration. Haven't really been into Tarkovsky since my late teens, but I feel I've a contractual obligation to see all of these in theaters at some point.
