I walk and bike a lot. Product manager at the MBTA.
Sofa delivery day is here. Our plan is to unpack in our driveway and carry it indoors via our front door.
Plot twist: neighbors had a pipe burst sometime last night and now our sidewalk is a sheet of ice. πŸ˜“

I'm in Somerville, but own in Cambridge. I'm curious what data supports staying on X? I just logged into my dormant account (needing to log in to see seems bad) and I don't see any meaningful engagement with recent city posts, just a single bad-faith, right-wing reply on one post.

I have my monitor plugged into a dock. My monitor came with a remote to toggle between inputs. Then I have a much cheaper switch that only controls the keyboard and mouse. It means two things to plug in/unplug into laptop but so far it's been sustainable

Yes and keyboard, mouse, and a setup that allows me to toggle between current computer and work laptop

Can someone who knows stuff about computers help me pick a PC from Costco? I use my computer to see how many chrome tabs I can have open at a time and TurboTax. Should I just get this: www.costco.com/p/-/acer-asp...

After the article the other day about the UK uninterested in making jaywalking illegal to accommodate Waymos, I truly want to see the aggressive defiance of jaywalking laws in Boston win out here
If you don’t want to get murdered by a Waymo car that ignores Boston’s long and proud tradition of pedestrian first street culture, call your reps and senators and say no thanks to this bullshit www.bostonglobe.com/2026/02/05/m...
Waymo is returning to Boston for testing, urges legislators to clear path for autonomous vehicles - The Boston Globe
As the robotaxi giant continues to train its cars on Boston's confounding roads, political and legal obstacles remain.

Like she was not using it to turn around, she was planning on driving on the sidewalk until she got to the next driveway.
February 6, 2026 at 12:04 AM
Someone tried to turn into a one way street the wrong way, realized their mistake, and tried to correct it by using the crosswalk curb ramp that I was standing on. She tried to apologize but like, unable to back up is not my problem. Would I be the AH if I had continued to stand in her way?

There was also a tree just outside this photo that was destroyed a few months ago

Well this is disturbing. Trucks running into the pedestrian signal in front of a daycare and across the street from an elementary school is a normal occurrence.

The thing is, along my route, the city *did* do a good job clearing, but drivers pushed snow (kind of looks like a snowbank crash in some places) into it or are using it for parking instead of digging out the actual parking spot.
February 5, 2026 at 7:41 PM
I've been biking and taking the lane since cars or snow/ice are in the bike lanes. So far no angry drivers (fewer drivers on the road in general, it seems). If I get honked at, I will start logging 311s for the illegally parked cars though.
February 5, 2026 at 5:32 PM
I went on a 311 logging spree for my walk today, and I only logged egregious things. I didn't log anything for under 3' clearance, except one place where I had to stop and let someone else pass first. Maybe on my next walk.

Yeah part of me is like "they're just gonna have to deal", but I also hate honking. Someone just the other day honked at a UPS driver actively making deliveries.

They're coming on Tuesday, so I imagined getting the permit tomorrow or Friday in person.
February 4, 2026 at 10:31 PM
Probably. I actually got mine months ago
February 4, 2026 at 10:30 PM
Not even go to the office?
February 4, 2026 at 10:30 PM
The alternative is to just unload the sofa in the street and block whatever traffic coming down
February 4, 2026 at 10:26 PM
Having a sofa delivered in the next week. Should I get a moving permit?

Normally I'd say no, but the snow has restricted parking and people are definitely finding alternatives to using their car.
People currently parked in front haven't moved in at least a week.

Hood park is building a street parallel to Rutherford.

C: 2031 means potentially another mayor. Where's our 92/93 bus?
C: concerned about flooding. You didn't talk about 93, or stadium or casino
February 4, 2026 at 1:23 AM
C: get trucks out of Sullivan. Was diverted here from Chelsea by MassDOT
C: support, shovels in ground before my son graduates, need robust process for nearby residents. Think about kids walking to orange line!
February 4, 2026 at 1:18 AM
Now public comment with a warning "if you don't like the answer, that's the world."

Comment: this bus lane is for Everett stadium, doesn't benefit us. Where's the stadium money?
