Jutel argues that Disinfo Studies is rooted in a NatSec-administrative paradigm and reflects a broader historical struggle in communications theory. That framing may be worth examining, but flattening the entire field into a proxy for state power skips a lot of nuance.
My published work on the political economy of Disinfo Studies puts it in the historical context of different theories of communication. It is an old struggle between an instrumental, administrative paradigm in service of NatSec priorities and the Frankfurt School that railed against that. [thread]
