Fish people! Does anyone have "Check-list of the fishes of the north-eastern Atlantic and of the Mediterranean (CLOFNAM)" (1979)? (unesdoc.unesco.org/ark:/48223/p...). I only need a photo of the synonyms of Atlantic salmon Salmo salar (no PDF needed). #CanIHazPDF #FishSci #TeamFish 🐠🐟🦈

Yet another brilliant blog post by @clauswilke.com in which he presents solid and carefully thought through argumentation on why deliberately publishing fewer papers may be a bad idea, hurting both quantity *and* quality of one's scientific output 👀

From the archives: No one reads your paper anyway
In 2013, I wrote a blog post about why it’s important to publish scientific results that nobody will read.

What is the point of adding obviously false positive metabarcoding detections to @GBIF? I'm looking at Scandinavian freshwater fishes and spend unnecessary time on filtering out e.g. tropical freshwater fishes "observed" in marine benthic fauna surveys... So much data litter... 🐟🐠

Looking for help with identifying some fish species on North Korean postage stamps. Any experts on Asian marine species around? #Fish #FishIdentification

Identification to genus of family is OK
I guess number 3 could be Sebastidae?

Bluetorial-A dream and a bit of a nightmare

Serving as Editor-in-Chief at Science was fascinating. I greatly enjoyed working with talented and committed editorial, news, graphics, and production staff. But the inside look into scientific publishing and AAAS was also deeply disillusioning.

Yet another proof that @elsevierconnect.bsky.social has given up on the quality of all forms of editorial work. There's obviously no copy editing anymore. So, what are we really paying for with subscription-/open access fees??
