An on-the-fence voter I talked to yesterday said something I thought was thought-provoking. "If people in Gaza aren't safe I don't think we should be." She was packing for a three week European vacation. I thought that was an interesting juxtaposition.
I woke up with Rottweiler Blues stuck in my head. Truly we are back in a Zevon era.
In honor of our wobbly economy, here is a Butterfly On a Wheel #SongSpotlight. Sigma S Star cover this Warren Zevon tune (Jeanette on lead) during the autumn of '08, dedicating it to Lehman Brothers and other flailing titans of finance as the economy craters.

This series of games (Cosmic Express, Sokobond Express, and now Spooky Express) will really tickle your noggin while being continually amusing and keeping the vibes immaculate. Basically anything by Draknek and Friends is guaranteed to be a really good time.
Again I have to advocate for this game on the basis that the zombies say "traaaains" when you pick them up. Also because it's very cute and lots of fun. (I was gifted a key)
It's #ScreenshotSaturday & here's a look at our recently released puzzle game, Spooky Express!

All the passengers are dying to ride! Don’t let them miss their stops: they may be monsters, but they still have places to be and people to eat– er, we mean meet!

I know you all have been asked for money countless times, but my friend the incomparable Emily Cross has been having a really rough medical time. If you are a fan of her bands @lomatheband.bsky.social or Cross Record and you can spare the money it would help her a lot.

Aw lookit this lil guy
I wanted to get a video of this ghost crab but every time I got close to their hole they scuttled back in, so I tried getting clever with it. I made a little sandcastle and shoved my phone into it, hit record, and walked away. Crab was VERY suspicious of this addition to their environment.

I hope you’re all enjoying this descent into madness.

The important thing to remember is what while I can’t sing, neither can eels, so this little jingle is very scientifically accurate.

So please. Get an eel facts advent calendar. You don’t have to wait until Christmas for eels. EelFacts.Net

Trump gets a lot of attention for being a con man but that clip of him talking about how Putin said he won the 2020 election reminds me that he is somehow simultaneously one of the world’s biggest suckers. An incredible combination.

Don't be Roger Waters.
Overheard in the company of Buddhists last week, but widely applicable, IMO.

“The thing about them is, they’re just constant gong. But constant gong is the same as no gong.”

This is shockingly awful but despite mostly not finding AI hallucinations funny it is undeniably kind of funny.
I've seen this on Bluesky and had to try it myself. The image below was the response to the prompt: "Show me a diagram of the US presidents since Herbert Hoover, with their names and years in office under their photos" Bravo, OpenAI, bravo.

This is something we talk about a lot in our household.
I can’t say it enough: U.S. culture is scam culture. It pervades everything we do. We don’t notice it because it’s the water we swim in. A party would do well to remind everybody how awful this is and propose to fix it.
I think Democrats should offer voters a broadly defined anti-fraud platform. Yes, obviously, start with Trump’s influence peddling, but don’t stop there. Online fraud is massive, almost every phone call you get is a scam, and the solution has to be federal or it just won’t work.

Did you ever notice that the backing vocals in "The Rhythm of the Saints" are the same melody and cadence as the keyboards in "Let's Go Crazy"?

TWP004 "Restless and Relaxed"
A lovely episode with Jonathan Meiburg discussing his various creative outlets: his music (Shearwater) on the one hand, and writing his book about the striated caracara on the other. It is exciting to hear how the different outlets complement each other.

TWP003 "Who's Your Superhero"
Such a sweet and funny episode. I love those stories and reasons for choosing that person as a personal hero. I love that @ansonmount.bsky.social talked to all of those superheros to get their story. Such a joyful and positive episode.

This is just a wonderfully calming game. It's a shame more people don't know about it.
ISHIDO: THE WAY OF STONES. (Atari Lynx Collection 1) The original release of this game would like you to believe it's an ancient pastime from the far east, but it was, in fact, designed by a man named Michael Feinberg in 1990.
