"Whatever the reason - maybe it's different for different people - the Trump administration has just made a decision, on their own, that they're okay with people not having food." No reason to not put it plainly. @timmiller.bsky.social:

For the umpteenth - but almost certainly not last time - the institutions of the American economy depend on the institutions of American democracy.
I really don't see how rights are irrelevant because the economy is all that matters.

Even if you think the economy is by far the most important thing, rights are a crucial part of a well-functioning economy. The White House's attack on rights in the US is bad on it's own AND harming the economy.
Klobuchar on Stephen Miller saying the administration is considering suspending habeas corpus: "He's doing it because they don't want to focus on what's really in front of them, and that they have created havoc in our economy ... no, they're not gonna reverse habeas corpus in the Congress."

Trump doesn’t understand how trade works, now…..
I just really need everybody to understand that everything that’s happening in and to the global economy now (and all the businesses and people in it) is the entirely predictable result of the intentional decisions of one guy who doesn’t understand how the global economy works.

"Cardinal Wojtyła had been a great opponent of the Communist dictatorship that ruled over his native land. As pope, he saw Poland liberated from it. Cardinal Prevost has been a critic of the nativist bigotry and cruelty now ascendant in the United States."

Of all the MAGAs melting down over the pope, my fave is Charlie Kirk.

Bro: The *universal* Catholic Church *invented* globalism. And Mary and Joseph fled to Egypt as undocumented refugees. Wtf do you think the Church's views on "borders" are?
