I’m inspired to survey the families who attend my math workshops this year - in the past my teachers have surveyed the kids about their attitudes about math and their growth mindset. #elemmathchat

I am a math specialist in Atlanta. I am always learning more about students who struggle and how to support them. I also love hosting family math workshops. #ElemMathChat

I feel so silly that I just learned that opposite sides of a six-sides die add up to 7! Thanks to Juanita Copley for letting me in on the big secret. 🙏 🎲🤦 #ITeachMath #ElemMathChat

Just wondering, is subitizing:math as phonemic or phonological awareness:reading? Or is that way too simplistic? #ElemMathChat #ITeachMath #MTBOS

A6 At my school we don't have workstations per se but have a slew of extra activities that complement the core lessons such as games. Our 4th graders have fallen in love with Numeroso and most of our grades love Struggly. #ElemMathChat

A5 Teachers need to model use of grade appropriate math vocabulary - I love a math word wall or anchor charts that include it. We can notice and name when kids use it appropriately. #ElemMathChat

A3 Unifix cubes are one of my favorite math tools in lower elementary! We use them a lot and kids learn to compose and decompose numbers with them. #ElemMathChat

A2 At my school, math lessons usually begin with a number sense routine. Students are eager to share their ideas and it's tough to know when to linger or when to move on to the next part of the lesson. #ElemMathChat

A1 Facilitating an atmosphere of trust, respect and genuine interest in the ideas and feelings of others is really important when building a community of mathematicians. #ElemMathChat

A8 3rd graders I work with are beginning to work with multiplication. Some have an inkling that you can switch the factors around and get the same product. I am so excited for them to find out and prove why that works. I learned to ask the question: will that always work? #elemmathchat

A5 I wonder if Ava would want to try it out with various numbers first and try to see if it works for those examples. Would she be satisfied with that or would she see why it works? #elemmathchat
