@shermanpatrick3.bsky.social As my go-to Senate rules expert, what exactly are they voting on tonight - is it to *begin* debate or is it cloture? Because the news glosses over this detail and I reckon the nuance is at least theoretically important (ie if a second supermajority vote will be needed)

If I were chairing a panel, I would make damn sure to learn ahead of time how to pronounce the names of the panelists.

That first $0 paycheck really makes the gov't shutdown that much more real.

As a credentialed Political Scientist™, I'm supposed to say term limits are bad because they empower lobbyists. And maybe they are. But it sure doesn't seem like that's worse than the status quo.

I dropped 6 lbs in 2 days, and all I had to do was get violently ill.

Stg the degree to which I'm getting r-bombed these days is... disconcerting, to say the least.

On the occasion of World Food Day, I'm once again thankful that I needn't worry about where my next meal is coming from. Hopefully one day, that'll be a universal sentiment.

Imagine trying to explain to George Washington that you could travel from DC to Taipei in 24 hours. He'd be baffled! "Where's Taipei?" he'd ask.

Anyways, even with aeroplanes, it takes far too long to get places.

Brain logic: Well $24 seems like a lot for shipping, I might as well spend the extra $800 to go pick it up [in another country] myself.

In a perfect example of the power of executive dysfunction, I finally did an analytical task I'd been putting off for months. It took less than 20 minutes.

Now to make that dentist appointment...

"He lived in the city but would always return to the countryside, at home neither here nor there. He was too much of a villager for the city, and too much a city dweller for the village. Too shy and withdrawn for some, too talkative for others."

At work, we're required to wear ID badges (y'know, for "security"). Customarily, in June, I attach a rainbow pin to my lanyard. A few coincidentally-timed events meant I didn't set foot in my office this month. But that didn't stop me from putting the pin on anyways.

Exactly twenty-five years ago today, was my first day informal employment. In certain worldviews, I guess that means I'm halfway to being considered worthy of existence.

Two women were standing next to me, discussing train schedules, but belaboring under several misapprehensions. I kept my mouth shut, but wondered: Had I said anything, would it have been autistic or mansplaining?
