Removing trans service members does not enhance readiness or lethality

Instead, it just demonstrates to our friends that we don’t actually believe in our values and shows our enemies that we can be easily divided by hatred.

We are stronger together. Full stop.

V good letter in The Guardian on Labour’s flailing hopelessness in the face of Reform.
Come on, Labour. The country is crying out for better. We’re sick of this ugly rightwing agenda. It brings nothing but failure.
It’s disloyal to your voters and to the country. You’ve got power and time. Use them.

Insightful analysis of the impending conclave. Hopeful too.
listen. God works in mysterious ways or whatever but it is hard to describe how spectacularly unpopular the highly conservative U.S. Council of Catholic Bishops has made itself with the rest of church leadership. the Vatican sees them as WAY too enmeshed in GOP politics and Francis legit hated them
seeing the U.S. "could an American be the next Pope?" headlines feels a lot like having an overly proud but poorly informed parent speculate about one's future

Nice to see the good guys show their heads every so often
"Pope Francis skipped the Vatican’s official meeting with Vice President JD Vance Saturday, instead having his No. 2 give the vice president a lecture on compassion, according to a Vatican statement."
Pope Sends Deputy to Lecture Vance on Compassion at Vatican
Vance had an “an exchange of opinions” with Cardinal Pietro Parolin that touched on migration, the Vatican said.

There’s a lot of people fighting for freedom against authoritarians and dictators all over the world. It’s easy to lose sight of them. In Tbilisi, Georgia, protesters are out on the street for the 143rd night as they fight against an election stolen by a Putin-backed party.

Quite shocking for HM Opposition to take the side of a foreign gov't, over their own parliamentary colleagues being detained and turned away by Israel.

A most basic test of loyalty and solidarity, yet the Tories somehow managed to fail it.

A good question with fascinating comments that really highlights the huge difference between this place and Twitter.
Serious question: Can somebody explain to me why the Signal boys loathe Europe so much? Exasperation with longstanding European refusal to spend more on defence really is not enough to explain this degree of hostility. What’s so bad about Europe? Too snobby? An obstacle to their libertarian dreams?

Trump, the self-styled 'master negotiator', has removed any leverage for Putin to come to the table. The only possible conclusions are either/some combination of a) he's actually a terrible negotiator b) he's indifferent to what happens to Ukraine c) he wants Russia to win.

People eep getting upset with Starmer's approach to Trump and the EU. I also find it infuriating, given that it's like watching someone equivocate between Darth Vadar and Princess Leia. But it must be perfectly obvious by now what his strategy is.
