Folks, I am in the software industry. I know most of my followers are following me because of that. However, I'm also a human being. If your attitude is, "You're a tech person, and I follow you for tech stuff, so could you stick to only that please," you might want to just unfollow.
Over the years, I’ve met most of the principal cast of The West Wing (though not John Spencer [RIP], and, to my great dismay, Allison Janney). They’ve been uniformly lovely. But my fave was Emily Procter, because of a story that’s too long to chronicle here.
Screw "never meeting your heroes." What were some times you met your heroes and they were super cool?

People occasionally ask me what they can do for resistance. Here’s a small thing: Go to your local Planned Parenthood and get an STI (sexually transmitted infection) panel. Let them charge you (or bill your insurance) for it, if you can afford it.

True confession time. Going back to the Maguire novel, in my head, I read the character name Elphaba as pronounced “el-FAH-bah” as opposed to the apparently correct “EL-fuh-buh”.

In today’s heightened tensions in international relations, particularly between the U.S. and Russia, Hollywood is missing a huge opportunity to make a cautionary tale via a big budget drama about Able Archer ‘83.

Today marks another link in the chain of history. The redcaps (cf. “brownshirts”) are once again certified to hold power. Is this what it’s like to have lived through something historically unpleasant, like Watergate? I’m not a historian, but I can’t help but wonder how the story will be told.

Yeah, but following President Biden’s lead (per Woodward in “War”), we can still refer to Trump as “That Fucking Asshole,” right? I kinda think we need a ruling on this.
If you’re one of those people who earnestly uses cutesy little names like tRump or Elmo or whatever, I have a great idea for a New Year’s resolution for you.

Today was the day that two of my worlds collided. I’ve read (and admired for historical perspective) posts @kevinmkruse.bsky.social since The Bad Place. Today, he quote-posted my beautiful bride. I’m not quite sure how to react to this turn of events.

Now, even as I’ve said this, Strange New Worlds is also, frankly, the closest thing to the original series I’ve seen from the Trek franchise. So you should be watching that too.
If you’re a Star Trek fan, don’t sleep on Lower Decks. It’s funny, and has some deep, _deep_ cuts from earlier series. And being animated, they can often bring back actors from those series to voice characters (or variants thereof) they previously played.

Aside from the obvious (two non-consecutive terms) I wonder if there are any other parallels to be drawn between the incoming administration and the Cleveland-Harrison-Cleveland years in the 1880-90s. I bet someone thoughtful like @kevinmkruse.bsky.social would be able to provide some analysis.
