“Tax and Spend” is what government does. Whether Dem or Repub, democratic or authoritarian. A good government will tax fairly and will spend appropriately.
My main problem with the proposed Trump #ballroom is its size. Seems way out of scale with the WH itself. Does anyone know how big a ballroom is really needed for state purposes?
Buildings on this 90k sq ft scale are convention centers. Maybe DJT wants to hold the Republican convention in it.

@karaswisher.bsky.social @profgalloway.com @pivotpod.bsky.social You guys have the whole Qatari plane thing upside down. The Qs are sick of the old “palace” and are getting a new plane. They are punking Trump by giving him that white elephant, playing on his pretensions to monarchy.

Good idea, but let’s go one better: dox any and all HSI or ICE agents we can identify *now*! “Just following orders” of a criminally immune leader is no defense. That was tried last century.
Like this idea from @jilldlawrence.bsky.social. Dems need to let Trump's henchpeople know that there will be consequences down the line for facilitating his corruption/lawbreaking.

I always want to remind people (especially Rs) that Medicaid is not giving money to poor people. It’s paying hospitals, docs, etc who provide health care (which they’re required to do) to these people. If you don’t pay care providers, guess where costs get shifted to?
To Democrats, the point of expanding Medicaid to cover more people is...to expand Medicaid to cover more people.

To Republicans, the point is...to DENY coverage to as many people as possible by including as many barriers & hurdles ot it as possible.

THE PARTIES ARE NOT THE SAME.

@preetbharara.bsky.social Just finished listening to you, Frank, Jonah, Joanne when breaking news popped up that DJT is threatening to sanction Russia for new bombing of Ukraine. Does DJT think Vlad is muscling in on his turf? Mob metaphor seems very accurate here.

@jaredb-econ.bsky.social I’m concerned that a lot of your reporting is dependent on reliable government data sources. Are you worried? Yet?

@charlesgaba.com I’m worried about your future ability to post health care data. How much do you depend on reliable government statistics?

There’s an old saying that: Before you tear down a fence (wall), be sure you know why it was build in the first place.

Keep in mind that #Medicaid is not a pay-out to poor or low-income persons. It makes payment health care providers who treat these folks. If we don’t do, these folks will get sick(er), miss work, etc.
And the costs they put the system in uncompensated care will push up insurance rates.

Henceforth I will always refer to this as the #TrumpRegime .

Just to give context: Sununu was gov of NH when vouchers to private schools gave more per student than the state gave to public schools. NH is last in state support for public schools and higher education youtube.com/watch?v=kIIP...

As NH state rep 2007-13, I saw the most impassioned representatives were parents of special needs kids, who struggled for support from the state, no easy feat in NH that worships "small govt". Maggie Hassan, then state senator, was one of them. @senatorhassan1.bsky.social

@joycewhitevance.bsky.social The next time you’re on with Preet, you’ll need to pronounce broligarchy and broliagarch. (Why does on have an A before the G and the other not?)
If these terms are going to enter into common parlance we need to know how to pronounce them properly. Thank you!

The black line is how much a 64-yr old couple earning $90K/yr has to pay per month for the benchmark #ACA policy in 2025.

The blue bars are how much they'd have to pay in 2026 if the IRA subsidies are allowed to expire.

I'm only halfway through the states.

I wonder if, when he cited medieval texts in his opinion overturning Roe, Sam Alito expected pregnant women to return to medieval mortality rates.
